The problem
Programming drums by hand to match a recording takes a long time. Pitch-based audio-to-MIDI tools are made for notes, not drums.
drums2midi listens to drum audio and writes the kick, snare, toms, hi-hat and cymbals as MIDI.
Step by step
- Open drums2midiFind drums2midi on the Apps page and open it. Sign in with your musicpro.app account to use it.
- Drop in your drumsDrop one drum track, or up to five stems at once: kick, snare, tom, hi-hat and cymbal. WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, AIFF, OGG and Opus work. It runs in your browser and the audio never leaves your device.
- Set the SensitivitySensitivity is always in view. Under More controls you find Offset (ms), Vel min, Vel max and Vel curve, and each drum can be turned on or off with its own threshold. A lower threshold gives more notes, a higher one fewer.
- Listen and compareClick Open in Studio. Play the audio and the MIDI together, and mute or solo each one.
- Export MIDIClick Export MIDI and drag the file into your DAW. Put a drum instrument on the track to hear it.
Tip: Separate stems give the best result: each drum is heard on its own, so drums2midi doesn't have to guess which hit is the kick and which is the snare. A full song with drums can work too, depending on the style and how the drums sound.
Common questions
Do I need an account?
Yes. Sign in with your musicpro.app account to use drums2midi.
Can I use a full song?
Often, yes. It works best with a drum track or drum stems, but a full song can give you a good starting point.
I don't hear anything in my DAW.
The MIDI has no sound of its own. Put a drum instrument on the track, for example your DAW's drum kit.
Can I use the MIDI in a song I sell?
No. drums2midi may be used and shared for non-commercial purposes only. See Credits and licence in the app.
